How To Make Your Hair Grow Faster: Top 4 Hair Hacks

Post Image

Most of us experience the trauma of getting a bad haircut at some point in our lives putting these hair hacks at the top of our list. Often the only way to fix a bad haircut is to grow it out real fast! When I was younger, getting a haircut was quite an ordeal for me. My hair wasn’t exactly typical. It was frizzier, wavier and thicker than most people, which meant that the neat hairstyles my friends boasted were not an option for me.

On one memorable trip to the hairdresser, I recall slipping into the swivel chair at the hair salon and politely requesting the same cut as about ninety percent of the girls in my class. I must have been around ten at the time and side bangs were in, together with shoulder length hair and lots of layers. The hairdresser took one look at my hair and said, “No ways!” My bubble was burst.

Alas, my trip to the hairdresser resulted in a plain, straight cut, as usual. My haircuts basically involved chopping off my dead ends. When I grew a little older, I became a hairdresser’s nightmare client. I used to rattle off a long list of instructions of exactly how I wanted my haircut done and then nervously follow the hairdresser’s every move, and still I came home in tears after every haircut. (Yep, I was paranoid – don’t learn from me!) My mom never let me return to the same hairdresser, hoping that she wouldn’t have to deal with my meltdown afterward. (I was the problem, not the hairdresser.)

My little sister shares my genes and has the same thick, wavy hair as me. Apparently, she harbors the same idea as I did when I was in elementary school, and she dearly dreams of having bangs. Except, she believes that people with straight hair are lucky enough to grow bangs naturally. “I wish I had straight hair so that bangs would grow,” she told me once when she was five. I didn’t tell her that bangs were cut, nor did I tell her that there was a slim chance that any hairdresser would agree to cut bangs for her.

Learning to grow my hair fast was the only viable solution to my hair woes. That way I could get over haircuts quicker. Fortunately, these days I’ve come to embrace my natural hair, and haircuts are no longer traumatic experiences for me. However, growing hair faster is still convenient after the occasional haircut that was a little shorter than I wanted; whenever I feel like a hairstyle change; or to have thicker hair.

There are a lot of tips and recommendations out there for growing hair faster. Do all of them really work? To be honest, I don’t know. I imagine the results vary between people. If you’re trying to grow your hair longer, the only way to find out would be to try these tips yourself! (Let us know in the comments section below if they aided your hair growth.)

Hair Hack #1: The ‘Inversion Method’

Scalp massage for hair growth.

The inversion method involves massaging your scalp to increase blood flow to the scalp and promote hair growth. Simply find a comfortable sitting position, such as on your bed, couch, or on a yoga mat, and hang your head between your legs. The idea is to position your heart higher than your head, allowing blood to reach the scalp.

Massage your scalp for 5-10 minutes every day. You can use a scalp massaging tool if you can get hold of one. I’ve never used one myself, but I’ve heard that they’re good. The inversion method is supposed to help your hair grow an extra inch or two per month. Hopefully you’ll enjoy longer, thicker hair soon enough!

Hair Hack #2: Cut Off Split Ends

You may have heard the rumor that trimming split ends makes hair grow faster. I have news for you: it’s just that – a rumor. However, it is true that cutting off split ends reduces hair breakages. So, if you’re trying to grow thicker or longer hair, taking care to regularly cut off split ends will stop hair strands from breaking every time you brush them or run your fingers through your hair, helping your hair to stay the length and thickness you desire.

Hair Hack #3: Hair Mask

Ingredients

1 Egg

Extra virgin olive oil (preferably organic)

Directions

Combine ingredients and massage mixture into hair and scalp for five minutes. Then bend your head and massage your scalp for another minute or so (you can use a scalp massaging tool if you have one). Finally, twist hair into a bun and cover with a shower cap. Rinse with water after thirty minutes, followed by shampooing and conditioning (using natural ingredient products).

According to one YouTube video that went viral, this hair mask can make your hair grow 0.5 inches overnight! When I first watched the video, I thought it said the mask makes hair grow five inches overnight! Waaaay too hard to believe! 0.5 inches is more believable, but I make no promises here. Try it to see if it works!

Hair Hack #4: Use Natural Hair Products

The skin on your scalp is an extension of the skin on your face, which means that for hair to be healthy and grow at a healthy pace, the scalp needs to be treated kindly, with care. Natural ingredient shampoos and conditioners are gentle on the scalp, cleansing and conditioning hair to maintain moisture levels and a healthy environment where hair can grow.

Chemically formulated hair products can be harsh on the scalp and hair, stripping them of all their moisture. In addition to leaving the scalp and hair dry and irritated, chemically-laden hair products can block the hair follicles and stunt hair growth.

Conclusion

We hope these tips are helpful for all you guys out there who are trying to grow longer, thicker hair. Of course, you shouldn’t feel any pressure to grow your hair faster if you’re happy with the length and thickness of your hair. It’s always nice to embrace our locks the way they are!
