Silk Naturals Review: Silky Skin From Silk Naturals?

Post Image

Silk Naturals is not your average cosmetic company. While they produce just about all the makeup products you can think of, they also emphasize skincare.  It’s refreshing to see a cosmetics company dedicated to skincare, something that’s important for just about all of us unless (you’re one of those lucky people who have perfect skin with zero effort). And what’s not to love about their name? So let’s get to it – This is the Maple Holistics Company Review of Silk Naturals

Silk Naturals Company Background & History

It’s surprising how many beauty companies were founded because their owners could never find the “perfect products”, and Silk Naturals continues this trend. Silk Naturals founder, Karen Stark, always loved makeup and even melted down her mother’s lipstick with Vaseline to make lip gloss when she was a kid. Although Karen dabbled in a few other jobs before founding Silk Naturals in 2006, she always knew this was her dream job. The brand started off with a single product but now produces more than 400 hundred items for skincare, haircare, and beauty.

Silk Naturals 8% AHA Toner Review

If you look at the reviews for Silk Natural’s 8% AHA toner you’ll see that the responses are overwhelmingly positive. What’s great about it is that it works really well even for those who have sensitive skin and have a hard time finding skin products that are non-irritating.

What exactly is AHA? AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acid, and it’s the wonder agent in this toner that keeps your skin firm and hydrated. AHA Toner is great for those of you with dry skin because it adds plenty of much-needed moisture to your skin with the help of the gentle exfoliating power of lactic acid (the form of AHA in this toner). Even so, your skin might take some time to get used to it, and in the beginning, you may see unwanted results (read: breakouts), and it may even sting a little. But it’s totally worth the first couple of weeks for the long-term result: beautiful, healthy, hydrated skin. Use this toner at night to wake up with fresh, soft skin; or twice a day if it works for you.

Silk Naturals 2% BHA Toner Review

For those of you with oily, combination or acne-prone skin, BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) is generally recommended over AHA. BHA is a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial that works to unclog pores and eradicate oil. Silk Natural’s BHA Toner contains 2% BHA and has a pH content of 3.5-4, which is an ideal combination for exfoliating the skin. It’s also good news for people with rosacea, though you should probably try a sample size first to see if it agrees with your skin. Like the AHA Toner, you can use this toner once or twice daily. Unlike the AHA Toner, though, this shouldn’t be used if you’re pregnant or nursing.

There are so few ingredients in these products because Silk Naturals tries to keep things as natural as possible, which is awesome. This toner contains aloe vera, which is soothing and hydrating and is said to work well to relieve inflammation and breakouts after waxing. Like with most products, some people are obsessed with this toner, whilst others don’t agree with it. What’s great about SN is that they offer sample sizes for almost all of their products, so you don’t have to commit to a full-size product if you aren’t sure what will work for you.

Silk Naturals Super Serum Review

Woman rubbing serum on face.

Gently Rub Serum Into Skin.

This is one of Silk Natural’s most popular products – which SN refers to as a “must-have”. In general, a toner goes on first, then serum, and then moisturizer. But if you’re using an acid-based toner (like AHA or BHA), you should not use this serum together, unless you want to look like a tomato. Silk Naturals recommends that you use AHA or BHA toner at night, and this serum in the morning, for plump, smooth skin.

If you’re not used to using both serum and moisturizer, you might wonder why you would need both, and what the difference between them is. Basically, serums penetrate the skin and work to heal it with the help of their active ingredients. On the other hand,  moisturizer does as its name suggests – it locks moisture into your skin to keep it properly hydrated. Both are recommended to achieve the healthiest, smoothest skin possible.

Because you only need the smallest amount for your entire face, Super Serum comes in a pump bottle, so you can control how much to pump out. This product actually has quite a few ingredients, but they’re all doing a different job to make this serum truly ‘Super’! You’ll recognize antioxidants like Vitamin C and Green Tea Extract, as well, so you know it’s doing your skin favors.

Silk Naturals says that you can use this serum without concern even if you have sensitive skin, acne-prone skin or mature skin. Like with most of their products, you can try a sample if you’re worried about irritation. The sample serum is 5ml, which is enough for a good few uses just to see if the product agrees with you.

In order to notice a real difference in your skin, you’ll have to give this serum – or any serum, in fact – a fair chance. Use it daily for plump, smooth skin, and to reduce aging symptoms like fine lines and wrinkles.

Silk Naturals Vitamin C Peptide Serum Review

You probably realized on your own what this serum is all about! Yes, it’s full of Vitamin C, which, while that does decrease its shelf-life, also brings your skin a whole host of benefits. One of the best things about Vitamin C is that it notably helps against sun damage and provides the proper relief for acne-prone skin. Even more, it brightens and soothes your skin, and gives you an overall smoother complexion – plus, it’s suitable for sensitive skin, and doesn’t sting when you apply it, unlike other Vitamin C serums. Silk Naturals also claims that this serum can even help fade age spots and freckles, though you would have to use it for a few months to see any results in that regard. But if wrinkles, fine lines, or pimples are your concern, or just smoother, firmer skin in general, I’d say give this a try.

Silk Naturals HD Cream Foundation Review

There are three kinds of the Silk Naturals HD Cream Foundation: neutral, golden and cool (all available in a range of shades). You have to be aware of the undertones of your skin to decide which kind would work best for you. If you aren’t sure, you can try different samples, which are priced at $0.99 each.

I’m a bit unsure about whether or not this is a good foundation. I think it really depends on who you are, and what you are expecting from it.

Pros:

  • The price – at $11.99 for a full-size product, it’s a pretty good value for money.
  • Soft, sheer coverage, making it perfect for everyday use.
  • Super comfortable to wear; doesn’t feel like you’re wearing makeup.
  • Doesn’t cake.
  • Pretty easy to apply with a Beauty Blender or sponge.
  • Covers redness and pigmentation well.
  • Natural ingredients.
  • Caters to different undertones and skin shades.
  • Decent staying power.

Cons:

  • This is not the foundation to use when you’re going for a full coverage look. Technically, you could build up, but it’s best for a light, sheer-to-medium coverage.
  • Not for mature skin, as it emphasizes fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Needs other products (moisturizer, concealer) – this is not your “everything-in-one-tube” kind of product. While it does a good job of hiding redness, it’s not too great at covering blemishes like pimples – you’ll need a good concealer.
  • Hard to apply with a brush, but works well with a beauty blender.

To summarize, it’s an overall great foundation – light, easy-to-use, and lasts decently long. If you’re young and have dry skin, this might become your go-to foundation for every day. For an occasion, a night out, or those with mature skin, it probably won’t be your favorite product.

Silk Naturals Eyeshadow Review

Close up of woman applying eyeshadow.

Silk Natural Eyeshadow.

Scrolling through the pages (and pages, and pages) of eyeshadow colors that Silk Naturals produces, you start to think to yourself “Does this ever end?!” There are 23 pages of eyeshadow colors, plus a couple more on the 24th page, each with its own unique description. I don’t think it’s possible to choose a favorite from so many colors, honestly! It’s especially impressive considering that Silk Naturals is an independently owned company, without the help or experience of a parent company.

Silk Naturals eyeshadows have great staying power (a primer is a must, though) and blend beautifully. Overall, they’re pretty cheap considering their quality – only $4.50 per shade, not including shipping. Plus it’s awesome that they use natural ingredients! Just be careful, because these shadows are loose powder, so there can be fallout and they may be harder to use for some people. But considering the quality and the price, it’s worth overlooking this minor detail and trying out these gorgeous shadows.

Is Silk Naturals Cruelty-Free?

Silk Naturals is absolutely cruelty-free, does not sell their products in mainland China, and also does not belong to a parent company that tests on animals, either – they’re their own brand.

Are Silk Naturals’ Products Vegan-Friendly?

Judging from the name, you can tell right away that Silk Naturals is unfortunately not a vegan company. However, they do have products that are vegan. If the product you are after is vegan-friendly, it will say so on the Silk Naturals website. Plus, all Gifts With Purchase are vegan unless otherwise specified.

Conclusion

Silk Naturals is known for their natural, good-for-you products and fabulous customer service. There are other perks that you can read about on their website, such as getting a free gift with every purchase over $10 (it’s a different item each week), and a free lip balm or eyeshadow with every $35 that you spend – including shipping. That’s pretty neat! Skincare is all the hype recently, and Silk Naturals has really hit the nail on the head here. No matter what kind of skin you have or what issues you may want to target, there’s bound to be a Silk Naturals product for you!
