Very-Cherry Smoothie Recipe: Vegan-Friendly, Lactose Free!

Published on Jul 10, 2018 in Natural Ingredients

Cherry might not be the fruit that you automatically think of putting in your morning smoothie, but that doesn’t mean it can’t work! Montmorency tart cherries are used in this recipe, which have a unique sour-sweet taste. The slight tartness easily wakes up your taste buds and cuts through the haziness in your brain. It’s almost like a caffeine substitute!

But montmorency cherries are good for more than just waking you up. These cherries pack in fibre, protein, healthy fat, potassium, as well as Vitamins A,C and K. Plus, the high amount of antioxidants can help reduce the risk of heart disease or other conditions. But most importantly – cherries are delicious!

Prep time: 0-5 min (this is for one of those super-busy mornings when you haven’t got time to take care of yourself. This shake takes care of you instead!)

Bananas, cherries, vanilla, coconut – so many delicious flavors! What’s not to absolutely love? Bananas are starchy fruits (technically berries) but they have a low GI. This means they keep you feeling fuller for longer, but don’t cause your blood sugar levels to spike, unlike many other starches.

Starches like toast also use up more of your body’s energy in order to be fully digested. Fruit, on the other hand, is relatively easy for your body to digest. It’s the perfect thing to start off your day with! Plus, the natural sugar content can help give you that much-needed morning energy boost.

This is a great smoothie pre- or post-workout, or any time you need a little pick-me-up. Vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, and packed with tons of bold flavor, this smoothie ticks all the boxes for a healthy and delicious breakfast or snack!
