We’re trained from a young age that staying “forever young” is something to be admired, nay, achieved. As if it’s a reasonable demand. Aging is a natural process of the body – from the day we are born we are aging. It’s true that when you’re aging from a 2-year-old to a 3-year-old it’s a lot cuter than when you’re 71 going on 72. Nonetheless, aging is not something that can be stopped.
The good news is that the aging process can be prolonged by understanding its root causes. One of the biggest causes of premature aging is a reduction in skin surface turnover due to diminishing collagen production. Seeing as collagen is the substance that retains your skin elasticity and strength, you want to hold onto as much of that as possible. Another root cause of aging is dehydration of the stratum corneum. This is the skin barrier, and when it has enough moisture it provides a defense against the external environment.
Understanding how the aging process is accelerated is essential for knowing how to slow it down. With this in mind, let’s turn to Olay’s Pro-X skin care line to see how they’ve got our anti-aging needs covered. The brand itself has an extensive selection of products (they even provide a seasonal catalog for consumers). This is a testament to their tireless efforts in developing products tailored to your skin care needs.
Olay Pro-X Skin Care Line Explained
Olay’s Pro-X skin care line is “dermatologist designed”, according to Olay. What this basically means is that they have a group of dermatologists called the Global Derm Alliance (I know, they sound like undercover agents…where do I sign up?) that not only approve products but help design them. This tackles skin problems from the source, not just covering up the symptoms. The Pro-X range aims to deal with those anti-aging issues we frantically try to reverse.
The main issues that Olay’s Pro-X line seeks to tackle is smoothing out uneven skin. By boosting cell turnover and lightening dark spots, Olay vows to keep your skin looking younger and reverse the signs of aging. By using ingredients like glycerin, niacinamide and retinyl propionate, Olay tries to really get to the cause of your aging woes. The fact that this range is fragrance-free also means that your skin is less likely to be aggravated by damage that can only be seen over a prolonged period of time.
In a nutshell, they’ve put all the good stuff in to keep your skin fresh and rejuvenated. If you’ve noticed that your skin has started looking dull or sagging, you’ve come to the right place with Olay. Whether it’s an eye restoration cream or spot fading treatment, Olay knows what your ever-aging skin needs to recuperate.
Olay Pro-X Skin Care Cleansing System Review
In all honesty, I don’t think that a rotating facial brush is a necessity in your skin care routine. They’re usually expensive and just sit on the shelf collecting dust. That being said, removing debris from your face effectively sometimes takes a little more than an exfoliator and some water. It also aids in blood circulation, which is a key factor in maximizing skin renewal and an even tone.
If you’re still not convinced that they’re a worthy investment, then consider that they also increase the skin’s ability to readily absorb moisturizers for immediate hydration. And Olay is selling them for a fraction of the price of other competitive brands.
Olay’s Pro-X Advanced Skin Care Cleansing System has 2 speed settings that vibrate and spin. This means that cleansers and exfoliators are able to get into those nooks and crannies we often miss with our finger tips. Your face does get a little red, but it clears quite quickly. Almost straight after wiping the product off with water, my face feels ridiculously softer.
You don’t realize how much debris is sitting on your face until your brush it off. It’s gentle enough to use every day, but the recommended amount to exfoliate is only once to twice a week. You don’t want to be stripping your skin of its natural oils. The bottom line is that this Cleansing System feels really nice and works up a thick lather. (Side note: the brush is removable and should be replaced every 3 months!)
Olay Pro-X Eye Restoration Complex Review
Your eyes are your face’s most prominent feature. So it’s no surprise that it’s the first place people notice signs of aging. It’s even less surprising when you consider that your eye region is one of the most delicate areas on your face. Eye creams are easily the primary product in any aging person’s skin care routine. Olay’s Pro-X Eye Restoration Complex is a specialized treatment meant to reduce crow’s feet, dark circles and puffiness under the eye.
It’s a lot to promise, but based on the ingredients it might not be as out of reach as you think. A fusion of caffeine (a diuretic), niacinamide and glycerin, which lock in moisture and increase the skin’s epidermis functioning, characterize this lotion. What got my attention was the cyclopentasiloxane. It’s a silicone-based emollient, which means it’s super moisturizing to give your face that temporary ‘plump’ look, filling in any fine lines.
The eye cream debate has been an ongoing one for some time now. (Surely your regular face moisturizer moisturizes your whole face, eyes included?) Yet if you’ve noticed signs of aging specifically in your eye area, the Olay Pro-X Eye Restoration Complex could target problem areas. It really helps in reducing inflammation from the eye area and lightening those dark circles. Get it here.
Olay Pro-X Spot Fading Treatment Review
The Olay Pro-X Spot Fading Treatment is one of my favorites in the Pro-X line. That’s mostly because it’s not just for anti-aging but also for a more general skin treatment. It reduces the look of dark spots and discolorations you get from over-exposure to the sun. The formula encourages the renewal of the skin’s surface, helping to correct any hyperpigmentation. Niacinamide is the main active ingredient. Its main purpose is to even out the skin tone.
Better known as Vitamin B3, this nutrient improves the epidermal barrier performance of the skin. This, in turn, reduces ‘blotchiness’ and slows down the transfer of melanin to the skin’s upper layer.
Over extended use you can really see the difference in your skin. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel greasy – it’s more like a gel. You’re supposed to follow it up with your daily moisturizer, but I find that it then gives my skin a sort of tacky feel. I have to admit that this isn’t my favorite texture, so I would just put it on before bed. The fact that it comes in a dropper form makes it extra sanitary – something I think is important and usually overlooked in skin care products.
My favorite aspect of this spot fading treatment is that it’s not a concealer because it’s correcting the problem from the core, not just covering it up. I can feel that my skin looks more evened-out over time.

Olay Pro-X Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser Review
Everyone needs a thorough facial cleanse every once in a while. Exfoliating speeds up the skin’s renewal process by removing debris and dead skin cells. This is a no-brainer part of your skin care routine if you’re looking to keep your skin looking supple and refreshed. Olay’s Pro-X Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser can be used with the Skin Care Cleansing System for best results. It’s a gentle exfoliant that cleanses and revives your skin’s texture for a smooth feel.
The ingredient that I noticed in this exfoliator was lauramidopropyl betaine, which is a surfactant. Surfactants help to clean the skin by allowing water to mix effectively with oil and dirt to be rinsed away. This means that your skin is cleared and is able to more readily absorb moisture and products.
The main thing to note is that this cleanser visibly removes grime from the face without eliminating its moisture. The problem I find with most exfoliants is that they work so hard to get rid of the dirt that they take some of the good stuff with them. But that’s not this case with Olay’s Exfoliating Cleanser. It really gives a good clean, which is what dull, aging skin needs in order to renew.

Olay Pro-X Age Repair Lotion With Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Review
With any moisturizer it’s important to make sure it has a broad spectrum SPF. You want to protect your skin from any harmful external elements. When it comes to the aging process, this becomes an even bigger concern. Sun exposure can lead to reduced elasticity of the skin as well as skin pigmentation. (All things you’re trying to avoid if you want to look “forever young”).
Olay’s Pro-X Age Repair Lotion with Sunscreen contains over 15% of sun-protecting ingredients. As if that wasn’t enough, the amino peptides in this formula guarantee your skin stays hydrated in the moisture-sucking sun. Peptides are a chain of amino acids that replenish the skin, essentially helping along the renewal process and creating a moisture barrier.
The thing I hate most about sunscreens in general is how oily and sticky they leave your skin. That’s why I’m always dubious when it comes to applying a moisturizer that contains a high SPF. I was pleasantly surprised when it came to Olay’s Pro-X Age Repair Lotion. My skin didn’t feel heavy, just a little dewy (but in a fresh way).
Just make sure to follow up with a liquid foundation instead of a powder one so you don’t get any balled-up residue. You’ll get a matte finish, which is honestly miraculous when it comes to an SPF moisturizer.
Olay Pro-X Intensive Wrinkle Protocol Review
This kit contains three main components to battle those wrinkles: Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30, a Deep Wrinkle Treatment and the Wrinkle Soothing Cream. They aim to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and crow’s feet. The active ingredient used in all three Olay Pro-X Intensive Wrinkle Protocol products to target these issues is glycerin. It’s a humectant, so it attracts moisture to the skin and improves its overall resilience. Restoring moisture to the skin’s surface is key to enhancing the elasticity of the skin and filling out any creases.
The overall texture of your skin is improved as your moisture barrier is renewed, giving you that healthy glow. I will say that using three products all for the same thing- moisturizing- is slightly overkill and could lead to clogged pores. But if you know your skin type and pay attention to its needs then you could use these three as a sort of mix and match set. Going out in the sun? Grab the Age Repair with SPF. Noticed your skin is looking particularly dull? Use the Deep Wrinkle Treatment.
And apply the Wrinkle Soothing cream day and night as your go-to moisturizer. When used correctly, you should notice your skin begin to tighten over time. How could it not with all that glycerin? Get it here.
I love a product that does what it says on the bottle – who doesn’t? But there’s something to be said for reducing the amount of chemicals we put onto our skin. Harmful or not, the fact that there are natural alternatives for most substances leads me to believe that I don’t need to be using the ‘fake’ stuff on my skin. Why would I when I can get the same effects from a pure source?
One of the easiest ways to naturally fight wrinkles is by upping your antioxidant intake. Collagen is ‘destroyed’ by free radicals, and antioxidants get rid of those. Foods like cranberries and kale, as well as drinks like green tea are significantly high in antioxidants. By eating these foods regularly, you should see an increase in your skin’s moisture retention and elasticity.
With that in mind, there about 300 different theories as to how and why we age. The key with any anti-aging product is to not expect miracles. Although Olay’s Pro-X extensive anti-aging range has the perfect formulation of ingredients to reduce the signs of aging, it’s not magic. Aging is a part of life. With age comes the two W’s: Wisdom and Wrinkles.
You can try to minimize the latter as much as possible by keeping your skin healthy, but remaining “forever young” is not a realistic expectation. Take care of your skin and ensure its healthy renewal, but learn to embrace your body’s natural processes and beauty.
