Sink Or Skin? Why Natural Skincare Is The Answer
I have a phobia. Of new products. Cosmetic skin products. I am terribly afraid to try new skin products, be it moisturizers, exfoliants, cleansers, creams or anything else that relates to skin care. My fear of trying new things does not extend across all aspects of health and beauty. It is strictly crippling when it comes to skin care, particularly facial products.
There is a reason for my fear. I believe my fear is rooted in the increasing findings of dangerous ingredients commonly used in skin and cosmetic products. Well, the public outcry has affected me too and I decided it is time for a big change despite my fear of new products. It took time and research, but now my skin routine is changed forever and I have never felt better.
Natural Skincare Explained
My new, all natural, skin routine is not so new. The raised public awareness of dangerous chemicals found in daily skin products has initiated a natural skin care revolution.
More and more cosmetic products are claiming to be all natural – but beware. Yes, some of these products truly do support their claim, but not every ‘all natural’ skin product is truly all natural. When I first switched to the natural skin care routine, I would go for products that simply advertised as ‘all natural’ without researching or digging into their ingredients. I quickly realized that I needed to re-center.
Second time around, I decided to go for a 100% natural skin care routine. No, not the products that I mentioned before. By 100%, I am referring to natural as in olive oil and coconut oil and sea salt. At long last I have found THE skin routine, and it is time to share it with you guys. So, here goes: (this is the beginner’s basics, so don’t worry about an information overload. Note of caution: some of the tips below might sound strange, but believe me when I tell you that they do work. So who cares if they’re strange, as long as they work, right?)
It is not for nothing that the incredible oil has become a buzz word lately. Yes, it does promote skin health, cleanse, moisturize, remove makeup and protect your skin from sun damage. So if you haven’t yet tried it, now is the time.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar contains antibacterial and antifungal properties and works as an effective skin cleanser. It can be used to clear acne and as a detoxifier. Obviously, this refers to only organic apple cider vinegar, or ACV “with the mother”.
Mix sea salt with coconut oil or olive oil and rub on your skin to exfoliate you skin – the ultimate, natural, skin purifier. Sea salt helps to maintain your skin’s pH balance, and works brilliantly as an all-natural exfoliant.
This super-healthy fruit isn’t only for guacamole! Soft, moist and rich in natural, healthy, fats, rubbing avocado on your skin is one of the best ways to hydrate your skin. In addition to working as a moisturizer, the avocado also soothes skin and can reduce inflammation and treat sunburns.
This works as an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Mix it with another oil, like almond oil or coconut oil, and use it to cleanse your skin.
After learning the natural skin care routine, I am no longer compelled to jump from one product to another because I just found out about another dangerous chemical that I have been exposing myself to, or just because the product is a failure. And if you find that one of the natural skin care techniques is not working for you, which is normal – each of us has a different skin type – at least you know you are not harming yourself with the product.
And do I have to mention another obvious one? You’ll be saving yourself a whole lot of money by not splurging on those expensive moisturizers. You can walk right past the beauty aisle and head straight over to the fruit section for an avocado instead!
