Lush Vanishing Cream Review

Post Image

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the show is about to begin! Okay so maybe I’m being a little dramatic but if you’ve never heard of vanishing cream then please step right on up to the stage. This magic cream does exactly what it says – a disappearing act on your skin. No, your face does not actually disappear – you just can’t feel it weighing down on your skin whatsoever!

The fact that UK-based brand Lush offers this cream has truly given me something to rave to my friends about. Lush is known for their vegan, cruelty-free, natural products so for someone like me who is conscious of what my skin absorbs, a vanishing cream that can come under all these categories is a dream come true.

Have you had enough of that oily greasy residue from your regular moisturizer? Tired of applying copious amounts of cream on your face to no avail on those dry patches? Or are you simply intrigued as to what a vanishing cream really is? Let me pull the rabbit out of the hat (sorry I had to) and give you a run through of why you need this cream in your skincare routine.

What Is Vanishing Cream?

If you don’t know what vanishing cream is, you’re about to find out.

Vanishing cream is the kind of cream that you don’t really know exists until you try it. At first glance, it’s hard to pin down what exactly it is. But as with all things magical once you know how the trick (or in this case cream) works you can’t un-see it. The magic is in the mystery. For those of you who, like me, have no patience for mystery let me break it down.

This cream is essentially a cream that vanishes (I know, it seems a lot less exciting now – I did warn you). Once applied to the skin there is no sign of it. I don’t know about you, but I usually tend to feel that moisturizers leave a greasy residue on my skin. This is especially noticeable if you regularly apply a foundation over your face cream, as it leads to a build-up of greasy layers.

Vanishing creams are light on the skin while still providing those desired moisturizing qualities. This makes them best suited for combination to oily skin as the skin doesn’t get weighed down, but those dry patches are still directly targeted. What’s more, is that they’re also good at healing any rashes and patchy areas to even out your skin. It’s just like the name suggests – magic.

The Importance Of Using A Vanishing Cream With Natural Ingredients

Using products with natural ingredients is key.

One of the factors that make vanishing cream so light and invisible is the fact that it uses less of the aggressive moisturizing oils you find in regular face creams. They’re a lot fluffier in texture and this lighter effect is obtained in different ways. In some cases, this texture is achieved by using certain chemicals and emulsifiers which may be harmful to the body.

It’s important to realize that what we put on our skin is absorbed into the bloodstream. So, while a vanishing cream with chemical qualities could have great external results, internally there is a lot more going on than meets the eye.

Using a vanishing cream with natural ingredients is crucial in reaping the full benefits of such a product. Creams using natural plant bases are just as effective and beneficial to the skin, if not more, than their chemically based siblings.

Natural based vanishing creams have been shown to result in significantly less skin irritation and redness after extended use, according to a study done in the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, the spread-ability  (the emulsification of the product) is just as good as the chemically based version. Basically, a vanishing cream with natural ingredients is the way forward. Which leads me nicely into my favorite Lush product to date.

Lush Vanishing Cream Ingredients Breakdown

Lush’s Vanishing Cream might not be much to look at (it’s quite a small tub for the hefty price tag). But you just need to take a glance at the ingredients to know that you’re guaranteed a powerhouse of results. Let me talk you through the main active ingredients.

Lavender Honey Water

Lavender is known for its calming properties.

Lush’s hand-made Lavender Honey water is the main component (and smell) in their Vanishing Cream. Lavender is renowned for balancing oil production in the skin. It has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties (actually nearly all of Lush’s Vanishing Cream active ingredients do). This makes it a perfect candidate to even out patchy, red skin and eliminate any acne-scarring. The fact that this concoction also has the ability to soothe the mind makes it a no-brainer in my opinion. A face cream that can calm me down? I need that in my life.

Witch Hazel Extract

While most of these ingredients fight acne symptoms, Witch Hazel Extract is actually well-known as one of the best natural acne remedies. It lessens bacteria growth on the skin and controls oil production. Basically, it removes the stuff you don’t want and replenishes all the goodness, so your skin doesn’t dry out. As if that wasn’t good enough Witch Hazel is also a vasoconstrictor which means it tightens the blood vessels and increases circulation reducing redness and puffiness.

Neroli Oil

Neroli Oil is derived from oranges, so immediately you know it’s going to be packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants. This means it promotes collagen production in the skin to tighten the skin and improve elasticity. This will give you that healthy glow you’ve been missing under all that dry (or excessively oily) skin. It stimulates the cells to regenerate too, so say goodbye to those blotchy patches.

Can Lush Vanishing Cream Treat Acne Scars?

Lush vanishing cream may be able to help remove acne scars.

Having taken a look at the delicious goodness of ingredients Lush has packed into their Vanishing Cream, it’s safe to say there’s a good chance it could treat acne scars. It’s chock-a-block full of skin-evening substances. Namely, Rose Water. In my humble opinion, this secret ingredient is the under-dog of skin care. Not only does it smell amazing but its main property is that it maintains the pH balance of the skin.

This means it’s a ridiculously mild ingredient that removes excess oils from the skin. As if that wasn’t enough, it discourages the growth of acne-causing bacteria while soothing irritation due to it’s anti-inflammatory properties. You literally can’t go wrong with adding rose water to your skincare routine.

If you thought it couldn’t get better, Lush has added Geranium into the mix. Geranium boosts circulation which increases oxygen flow and gets rid of dreaded toxins. It doesn’t brighten the skin or tackle dark spots (this cream has other ways of doing those jobs as we’ve seen) but it does correct uneven skin. It’s mild but effective – just like the magic rose water. In a nutshell, based off ingredients alone, Lush’s Vanishing Cream should definitely be added to your acne-combatting skincare regime.

Lush Vanishing Cream Review

The first thing I noticed when I took the lid off this Lush Vanishing Cream was the strong lavender scent. I know this aroma doesn’t do it for everyone, but the smell truly does put your mind at ease. The texture isn’t thick like most moisturizers – it’s kind of fluffy and airy (like whipped cream), which is promising. The lightness of the emulsion comes from the Stearic Acid (which is palm oil extract – incidentally the same natural base ingredient used in the research mentioned earlier).

My combination skin is oily on my T-zone and I could tell almost immediately that it evened out my patchy skin. You don’t need to use a lot (which is good because like I said the tub is quite pricey). The key to this product doing its job is to apply it before anything else in your routine.

It’s not as effective (or invisible) if you apply it over your other skin care products. (But that’s totally normal because you’re not really supposed to use your moisturizer after you’ve applied your foundation). If you get dry zones on your face but the rest of your skin is somewhat ‘normal’ then this vanishing cream evens out those areas. Honestly, how could it not with all those kicker ingredients thrown together?

Conclusion

If you have oily or acne-prone skin or are just over having that extra layer of grease on your face from your moisturizer then this one’s for you. The fact that Lush’s products use natural ingredients make this vanishing cream a safe bet for even the most sensitive faces. Sticking to the Earth’s ingredients for your makeup routine means your skin is exposed to less of those harmful chemicals. Lush’s commitment to raw substances means their Vanishing Cream is delivering exactly what it says on the tub.

If you want your face to be soft instead of greasy (and isn’t that always the more desired result?) then Lush’s Vanishing Cream is the way forward. Vanishing cream itself was originally formulated back in the early 1900s by a London based pharmaceutical company! At this time advertisers claimed it could also aid in keeping powder on the face (aka less oily skin). Now that the ingredients in this product have been broken down this seems unavoidable!

The Witch Hazel Extract and Rose Water, to name a couple, target your greasy and problem areas. Your skin is less oily so it’s able to maintain more of its matte features, holding your makeup better. (I know, I didn’t think it could get any better either). Try it and discover this feat for yourself. Come one, come all!
