John Freida Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Lightening Spray Review

Post Image

Anyone who’s ever tried bleaching or using peroxide on their hair for lighter shades, knows the troubles this method can cause. This is especially true if you’re trying to do it in the comfort of your own home. It’s messy and difficult, not to mention dangerous, as it can leave far more than just your hair bleached. Until recently, I never really worried about these kinds of issues, as I always left my hair it’s natural color. Recently though, I decided to add slightly blonder highlights. My entire hair care routine had to change in order for me to accommodate the lighter color. I stopped using traditional shampoos and conditioners and opted for herbal treatments.

In doing my research, I stumbled upon the John Freida Blonde Go Blonder range and really liked what I found. The product is for lighter shades, but it’s also quite effective on darker shades too. As long as you don’t overuse them, that is. In this case, I’d like to talk about the Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray. I found it to be the easiest method of safely getting, and maintaining, lighter hair without the risk of using strong bleaches or breaking the bank.

The John Freida Company Review

The John Freida company is well-known in the hair care industry and their salon’s are frequented by the rich and famous regularly. I don’t like to use that as my sole reason to buy into a particular brand, but it definitely gives them some reputability when it comes to quality.

That being said, the John Freida brand is not entirely exclusive to the rich and famous. Their hair products are affordable and effective. You’ll be getting the same product as the wealthy, for the price of your shelf shampoo or hair spray. Deal of the century! The brand has been active in shaping the hair industry for over three decades and has won numerous awards and accolades for their products. This creates a strong sense of loyalty with their consumers. So, let’s take a closer look at their lightening spray to see what the fuss is about.

John Frieda Go Blonder Spray Ingredients Breakdown

The John Frieda Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray has ingredients like Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) flower extract, Citrusmedica Limonum (lemon) peel extract, and Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) seed extract. Yes, it has all of these great natural ingredients however, it also contains hydrogen peroxide, which can be very damaging to your hair.

Hydrogen peroxide is a common ingredient in hair lightening products. If you are trying to dye your hair, this ingredient is hard to avoid.  Hydrogen peroxide a permanent dye (will only go away when cut off) because it works in the innermost part of the hair. This part of a hair strand is the pigment that gives your hair its color. If you are consistently using hydrogen peroxide on your hair, you could have detrimental effects on skin and hair cuticles.  It is common to experience irritation on your scalp if you are applying the bleach to your roots. Lightening one’s hair with hydrogen peroxide causes cuticle damage which results in split ends, breakage, and frizz.

Keep in mind that hydrogen peroxide is a harmful chemical, but it is typically diluted before being used. Lightening of the hair simply isn’t possible without an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide.  The negative consequences of hydrogen peroxide are only a serious problem when overused. If you think you may be at risk of overdoing it with hydrogen peroxide, try a natural method of hair lighting.

John Freida Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray Review

This hair spray is designed to help control and lighten lighter shades of hair, but works just as well on darker hair types. Obviously, the results will take a bit more time to show when using the spray on a naturally darker hair tone.  It’s carefully formulated to leave your hair in the best condition possible, without the fuss of aerosol cans that contain additional harmful chemicals. It’s something we all want to avoid. The spray is rich in citrus and chamomile extract to naturally lighten and degrease your hair over time. All you have to do is apply the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening spray and let the sun naturally do the rest. But be careful about getting too much sun. It should come as no surprise that this can damage your skin and hair in the long run!

The oil is designed to be thermo-protectant which means that (within reason) it can help to alleviate the damage caused by direct sunlight. The oil also helps to contain hydrogen-peroxide in your hair if you’ve added in highlights or color. It does so with the use of fixative and conditioners polymers. This means that you’ll be able to maintain your color for a longer period of time, as well as increasing your hair’s overall lightness and sheen.

John Freida Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray Before and After Results

Woman with highlighted hair.

I’m normally a skeptical person. I’m quite specific when it comes to expecting the results I’ve been promised. Especially when you consider how much money we spend on all manners of products. You can never be too casual about things like this these days. But that was until I saw the John Freida Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray before and after results for myself. The lightening effects of the Controlled Lightening Spray work very well, and quickly too. After 5 days of using the spray each morning after my normal washing routine, I noticed that my hair had become lighter. Better yet, my highlights were looking particularly vivid and healthy.

I was surprised because it’s such an easy treatment to use – just spray it on after washing, and you’re done! Couldn’t be easier. The oil also smells lovely, and gave my hair a really pleasant floral fragrance that lasted right through the day. However, I would advise that you use the spray in regulated amounts and definitely stay away from hair straighteners and blow dryers. This is because the spray can dry your hair out if applied too liberally. Also, using it whilst blow drying or straightening your hair could lead to damaged or brittle hair. To counter any drying that may occur during your use of the oil, I would recommend applying 2-3 drops of orange, lemon or argan oil to your hands. Work it into your hair before applying the spray.

Conclusion

I’ve definitely found a place in my bathroom cabinet for the John Freida line – and this hair spray in particular. It’s affordable, effective and really great for my hair. For once I feel like I can treat my hair color easily and by myself. I’m all for affordable, nourishing hair care options.

It’s also one of the few times I’ve recommended a product like this to one of my close friends who has never had any interest in dyeing their hair – just because it’s so simple and effective. It’s definitely something that every blonde or light-haired person should have in their home. Right next to the John Freida Blonde Shampoo!
