Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion Review

Post Image

There are lotions to lock in moisture, lotions to reduce wrinkles, lotions that smell like gardens, and lotions that smell like fresh laundry. Whatever your needs, there’s a lotion for you. And this is precisely why Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion caught my eye. Jergens has been around since 1901, promising to help you achieve smooth and soft skin. Their tried and true formula works to reduce dryness and leave your skin looking healthy and hydrated. Nonetheless, I was intrigued as to what made this healing lotion, well, heal.

It was the word ‘Ultra’ that got me. Being pretty fluent in ingredients labels I wanted to know what stood this lotion apart from just a regular healing lotion – or any of Jergens’ other lotions for that matter. So here goes my Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion review. When I checked out the ingredients label (as I always do before making any purchase, hello, greenwashing anybody?) it was the vitamin C that grabbed my attention. Allow me to explain exactly what this nutrient does for your skin.

Vitamin C Benefits For Skin Explained

Vitamin C is rich in antioxidants which means that it has the power to eliminate free radicals in your body. Antioxidants aren’t just powerful for your internals though; they also have a great effect on your externals. Antioxidants are effective for increasing your skin’s natural renewal properties. They repair damaged skin cells and protect healthy ones. Additionally, the highly acidic properties of vitamin C means that it boosts collagen production. Collagen improves the skin’s elasticity and promotes the regeneration process for youthful skin, which is exactly what dry and damaged skin needs.

These antioxidant and collagen-boosting properties of vitamin C make it a great natural anti-aging ingredient. This is amplified by the fact that vitamin C contains qualities that inhibit the production of dark spots and reduces wrinkles. It has the ability to reduce hyperpigmentation and inhibit melatonin production. This leaves your complexion clean and clear. Overall, your skin just can’t get enough of this skin-regenerating vitamin! Now that we know why vitamin C is so beneficial for your skin, let’s get into Jergens Ultra Healing lotion ingredients.

Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion Ingredients Breakdown

After my whole ‘benefits of vitamin C’ rant, the obvious ingredient in this healing lotion is vitamin C. Although that’s not what the ingredients label says. The fat-soluble form of vitamin C is known as ascorbyl palmitate and is often used as a more available form of vitamin C in many products. The truth is that, despite the wonder of vitamin C, it was actually the second ingredient on the list that first caught my eye: glycerin, Glycerin is a humectant which means that it locks moisture into the skin’s surface. It combats dry skin without leaving you feeling greasy. This explains why Jergens’ Ultra Healing Lotion packs a punch in terms of hydration.

My only caveat with this lotion is the presence of one questionable ingredient. Fragrance. If you’re not sure why it’s a red flag, let me tell you a little secret: fragrance is not an ingredient. It’s often used a loophole for companies to add substances that you (or the FDA) would rather not see on the label. That means that I’m always a little cautious when I see it lingering on the bottom of ingredients labels. Apart from that this lotion is clearly highly effective in terms of replenishing ingredients with vitamin C, glycerine, vitamin E and pro-vitamin B5 all making a guest appearance on the ingredients list.

First things first, let’s talk packaging. I’m all for products that have packaging that improves the hygiene of the product itself and that’s one thing that’s great about the Jergens Ultra Healing lotion. It comes with a pump which reduces the transferal of germs and makes sure that your skin stays clean. This is not a feature to take for granted if you’ve had a look at some other personal care packaging.

Moving onto the quality of the lotion itself, it’s pretty thick and heavy but it absorbs right up! You don’t get that greasy feel that you get with other heavy ‘ultra-fill-the-gap’ lotions. The creamy texture leaves skin feeling richly moisturized and with a healthy glow.

Now I’m not one for overpowering scents in my body lotion. I think that fragrance is a personal thing. Why should I have to skip out on a good quality moisturizing lotion just because I can’t stand the smell? So, it’s a relief that Jergens Ultra Healing lotion is known for its pleasant, mild smell. It’s got a subtle scent that leaves you feeling fresh rather than perfumed.

Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion Review Vs. Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion

When comparing personal care products, I personally think that the best way to see which one is better (or at the very least more suitable for your skin’s needs) is to look at the ingredients label. These products are similar in the sense that they contain potent natural ingredients to help your skin achieve nourished, hydrated skin. Generally speaking, the two lotions are not worlds apart, they just take different approaches in improving your skin’s hydration issues.

Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing body lotion contains oatmeal which is a powerful ingredient to balance sensitive skin and enhance your body’s ability to lock moisture into the skins surface. This, combined with the fact that Aveeno’s moisturizer had a generally shorter and more natural-based ingredients list than Jergens moisturizer, means that I would probably try Aveeno’s first. That said, the presence of dimethicone in Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing body lotion would hold me back. Dimethicone is a silicone that is generally safe but overexposure can cause irritation and is non-biodegradable. Two things I like to avoid when possible.

Conclusion

The bottom line is that giving your skin a boost of vitamin C never hurts. It can help to improve your complexion, increase collagen production, and reduce pigmentation. With this in mind, Jergens Ultra Healing lotion revives your skin and enhances skin cell turnover. So, your skin is healthy and hydrated. With a multitude of healing, moisture-boosting ingredients you can be reassured that dry skin will be a problem of the past.

That being said, I feel I should mention that Jergens is not a cruelty-free company. I’m well aware that this might not be a make-or-break for some people, but for any animal-lovers out there this information could be a deal-breaker. With thousands of ingredients out there that don’t require animal testing I truly believe that this process just isn’t necessary in our modern day and age. Nevertheless, Jergens Ultra Healing lotion gives your skin the TLC it needs. Try it for yourself and enjoy smooth, hydrated skin!
