Garnier Micellar Water Review: Does It Work?

Post Image

Most of us are used to treating our skin with a wide range of products as part of a daily treatment process. Doing your weekly shopping includes making a list of all the beauty and healthcare products that you need in order to maintain clear and healthy skin. What if I told you that there was an all-in-one solution that not only worked as a makeup remover, but as a skin toner, moisturizer and cleanser all at the same time!

The solution comes in the form of a water-based substance known as micellar water. Micellar water has already become quite popular in the world of skincare and for good reason too. The mixture is carefully balanced so that it can absorb dirt and grime.

In my opinion, micellar water should be included in everyone’s beauty and skin care product range for a number of reasons. Most importantly because it’s cheap, effective and good for your skin. In order to get the best results, you need to know how to use it in your skincare routine. So keep reading to find out more.

What Is Micellar Water?

When it comes to achieving and maintaining a healthy complexion, the manner in which you nourish your skin if often as important as keeping it clean and clear. This is something that you have to do on a daily basis to prevent the formation of clogged pores. Micellar water helps to wash away pollutants as well as makeup or sunblock (for instance) which may lead to the formation of blackheads or inflammation.

Ensure that you get enough of the essential collagen supporting vitamins and minerals in and on your skin is essential for achieving a brighter, healthier complexion and stronger skin in general.

Micelles are tiny, hydrophobic molecules that act as a binding agent for various particles in a water-based solution. Essentially this means that micelles are introduced to a blend of agents within a distilled, water-based solution. This enables liquids that don’t usually blend together to form a more effective blend.

It holds them together to form a more practical final product. This usually means that micelles act as the binding agent between a distilled water based solution and natural oils as well as cleansing agents. The result of this is a ‘watered down’ version of the products that makes it easier to apply to the surface of the skin. In many cases, micellar water is rich in natural oils and vitamin extracts which cleanse and nourish your skin.

Does Micellar Water Really Work?

When it comes to skincare products, micellar water can be a helpful component in the cleansing process. It’s not a miracle cure. (In fact, I don’t think there are any products out there that truly provide life-changing overnight results yet). While there are more effective products on the market, they often deal with one specific issue for a specific skin type.

This means that they will often have other detrimental effects if not used correctly or based on your skin type. You can use micellar water diversely at any time of the day and on any skin types.

This is due to the products carefully balanced ratio of natural oils, cleansing agents and toxin-free formula. You can use it primarily to help remove the surface layer of dirt and grime on your skin.  However, the product is a go-between for many different products. Therefore you can tone and prime your skin before and after treatments. You can also combine it with other products to provide a more effective deep cleanse and hydrating effect.

Garnier Micellar Water Review

This brand was not in fact the original creators of micellar water as we know it today. Nevertheless, the fact is that their version of the product has become well-established. It’s a popular go-to in the skincare world. Garnier is a brand that is known for producing high quality products with great results that are accessible and easy to use, yet deliver amazing results every time. Their micellar water comes in a large, easy to seal bottle. This means that you get your money’s worth with every purchase.

Garnier’s micellar water is perfume-free, which reduces the risk of drying out your skin. The formula has been carefully balanced over time to ensure that it meets the requirements of both dry and oily skin types yet doesn’t leave a residue on the surface of your skin when left on over the course of the day.

The best way to use Garnier’s micellar water is with clean cotton pads or swabs and the product is suitable for use both before applying makeup as a primer as well as afterwards as part of the removal phase. It works to leave your skin balanced and nourished after the application. This means you won’t be left with a greasy layer on the surface of your skin over the course of the day or while you sleep.

DIY Micellar Water Recipe

I recommend using a tried and trusted brand for regular use and the best results. That being said, why not create your very own micellar water in a few easy steps? Opting for a DIY means that you’re able to customize the formula so that it better suits your needs. Before you start, here’s a list of the ingredients you’ll need:

  • 250 ml of boiled water
  • ⅛ teaspoon of sunflower lecithin
  • ⅛ teaspoon of vegetable glycerin
  • 2 teaspoons of natural oils (such as jojoba, coconut, almond or peach kernel)
  • ⅛ teaspoon of rubbing alcohol
  • ½ teaspoon of liquid soap
  • 2 drops of essential oil (such as eucalyptus, tea tree, rose or lavender)
  • a fine mesh strainer
  • sterilized glass bottle with a tight fitting cap

Making the micellar water is really simple and shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes. Pour the distilled water into a large mixing bowl. Sift in the sunflower lecithin and be sure to stir well.  Now add the rest of the ingredients and mix again. Finally, decant the liquid into the sterilized bottle and seal tightly with the lid.

For storage, keep in a cool dry place and avoid long-term contact with direct sunlight. This mixture should last you roughly a month depending on how regularly you clean your face (but that’s based on a twice a day average). My advice would be to buy the ingredients in bulk so that you save more in the long run.

Conclusion

Ever since I started using micellar water as a part of my daily skincare routine, the differences have been worth noting. The quality of my skin has improved tremendously and has never felt more hydrated or revitalized. It’s easy to use so you can include it in your skincare routine without much need for preparation. You also don’t need to include other products to help balance out your skin.

If you’re concerned about the quality of the water in your taps and don’t have a reverse osmosis filter in your home or are simply on the move more often than not, then micellar water is definitely something that you should keep in your toiletries bag or your bathroom cabinet.

Micellar water is suitable for both men and women and will give you great results with consistent use. So to conclude, you should definitely keep a store of this stuff around. You can also stick to creating your own product. Having micellar water in your skincare routine is evidently imperative for healthier skin.
