Dove Men+Care Review 2019: All-Inclusive Dove!
Here at Maple Holistics, we’re big fans of Dove and Dove products. That’s why we’re back for another Dove review! And this one’s for the boys. We talk about a lot of products geared towards women, but don’t think we forgot about you guys. The Dove Men’s collection is formulated and packaged with the specific needs and preferences of men in mind, and made with more masculine scents that will have you smelling fresh all day long.
Dove has been known as a brand for the ladies, and everything about its original name, branding, logo, packaging and scents was indicative of that. Dove began in the 1950’s by a Unilever researcher Vincent Lamberti, but it wasn’t until 2012 that the Men+Care line was launched. To make a female-centric brand appeal to men they changed everything from scents, to colors and fonts of packaging, to new formulas with the personal care concerns of real men in mind.
Dove Men+Care Body Wash Review
The Dove Men+Care Body Washes are great because they are non-irritating, have amazing fragrances that are not overpowering, and have really nice lather. The range of scents and formula variations include the Clean Comfort which is a milder formula easy on the skin, Fresh Awake has a stronger scent that is revitalizing and helps wake you up in the morning, Aqua Impact with ocean minerals and sea salt, Deep Clean is exfoliating and wonderful for acne sufferers, Sensitive Shield is incredible for sensitive skin, Oil Control helps balance out the oil and moisture levels in the skin, the Elements Charcoal + Clay which is very clarifying and the Elements Minerals + Sage which is super refreshing.
Dove Men+Care Body and Face Bar Review
The Men’s Body and Face Bars cleanse well but are not harsh at all. They lather well and rinse away easily without any film or residue left over. They are very moisturizing and leave a great scent that lasts for a few hours after showering, leaving skin feeling smooth and smelling awesome. The bars are available in the Oil Control, Deep Clean, Clean Comfort, Extra Fresh, Aqua Impact, and Elements Minerals + Sage varieties.
Dove Men+Care 2-in-1 Shampoo and Conditioner Thick and Strong Review
An ongoing theme of the Dove Men’s products is consolidating products into one to do away with arbitrary cosmetic steps, for a straightforward, yet effective, personal care routine. The 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner utilizes calcium, pyrithione zinc, and caffeine to strengthen hair, prevent against thinning and fallout, and thicken fine hair. It also reduces scalp dryness and flaking, and the menthol has a pleasant cooling affect.
Dove Men+Care Antiperspirant Deodorant Stick Review
The product really does the job, keeping odor and sweat under control for a substantial amount of time (they claim 48hours but it’s a bit less than that). It shouldn’t irritate sensitive skin and it subtly moisturizes the underarms for ultimate comfort.
The white stick does leave some white residue that can transfer to clothing, so that’s not great, but it’s generally effective and the scent is good and clean, without being in your face or interfering with the smell of your cologne. The different options include Clean Comfort, Fresh Awake, Cool Fresh, Cool Silver, Sensitive Shield, Extra Fresh, and a prescription strength Clinical Protection version of the Clean Comfort deodorant.
Today and every day, Dove Men+Care supports all dads and families.

Dove Men+Care Hygiene Kit Review
The Hygiene Kit comes with either the Extra Fresh or Clean Comfort versions of the Dove Men+Care liquid Body and Face Wash, the Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner, and the 48-hr Antiperspirant Deodorant. The three full size items comes in a snazzy gift box and at a really great price. The kit makes an easily appreciated, useful laidback gift for the guys in your life, or just an easy way to try out the main products of these awesome lines for yourself.
Dove Men+Care Body and Face Wash Clean Comfort Review
This is another 2-in1 which can be used for both face and body. It has a refreshing cooling agent and a fresh-air kind of scent. Even if you only want to use this as a face wash, this is way cheaper per ounce than an average face wash which cost about the same price but come in 3-5oz bottles while this is either 14 or 24 oz, so it’s very cost efficient.
It’s also a perfect body wash for someone with more sensitive skin because if it’s gentle enough for facial use, it’s gentle enough that you know it won’t irritate your body, and the Clean Comfort is also one of their milder cleansers.
Dove Men+Care Face Lotion Review
This face lotion absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn’t have a greasy consistency to it. It has light UV protection (Broad Spectrum SPF 15) which makes it multi-functional, but not protective enough for lighter skin tones who can definitely use stronger UV protection. It’s a pretty average lotion in terms of moisturizing, and maybe not the most hydrating out there, but still very solid at this price point.
Does Dove Men+Care Offer Coupons?
They sure do. Dove is usually pretty good about coupons, and the men’s products aren’t an exception. You can find bigger discount for specific products or smaller percentages off for any item in the line.
Is Dove Cruelty Free?
Dove is a Unilever brand, and Unilever is not cruelty-free. They don’t test finished products on animals, but they do test ingredients on animals when “there are no suitable non-animal approaches available.” Some of the Unilever brands are certified cruelty-free individually, like Murad and Dermalogica, but Dove is unfortunately not one of them. The products are also sold in China where they are tested on animals by research facilities over there.
Dove vs. Head and Shoulders
Dove and Head & Shoulders are both trusted hair care brands, and both of their anti-dandruff shampoos utilize the same active ingredient, pyrithione zinc.
I tend to think that the Dove Men+Care hair care is better than that of Head & Shoulders because they offer a multitude of benefits, like hair thickening and strengthening, while Head and Shoulders focuses only on dandruff and its conditioning products are too lightweight to be effective enough for most people. Dove also uses less irritating, gentler cleansers and the products are generally more conditioning.
Dove is a brand that dermatologists recommend, because the cleansers find the right balance of being thorough without being too harsh on the skin. They have some great hypo-allergenic products, and don’t use too much of potentially irritating fragrances. These Men+Care formulas are impressive and smell incredible. Part of the marketing for this line has been to show that “#RealStrength” is being able to show that you care, including caring about your own body and skin. And with all of the multitasking, hardworking products it has to offer, Dove Men+Care makes that so easy.
